Ari retires at the top

Ari has had a wonderful show career and with his Crufts win, 2 further BOB's and a Group shortlist in 2009 he really had nothing left to prove. He is now retired to concentrate on Obedience, Agility and plenty of cuddles.

2009 in Detail

For the third year running our showing year started off with a trip to the Three Counties Showground for Worcester and Malvern Canine Society's Open show, no breed classes this year so Ari was entered in the AVNSC Gundog Open D/B class where judge Ray Strudwick awarded him first place, Best AVNSC and then Gundog Group 4 - not a bad start at all to the year, especially as brother Rupert took Best Rare Breed.

Ari's first Champ show of the year was Manchester where he came 4th behind nephew Woody, and big brothers Glen and Stig. Well done boys! Litter sister Madjik was Best Bitch Rare Breeds handled by Carol and then I took over the handling honours for the breed classes where she was 2nd in Open Bitch. Well done to Madjik as well.

Ari went to his first ever Limit show a couple of weeks later where he was 2nd in the Open Dog class behind the beautiful Pointer who went on to take BOSIS - I had forgotten how much fun Limit shows are. I usually help at Bromsgrove but as I couldn't be there for the start (agility training clashed) then I entered both boys in the later classes of the day and had a blast.

Then we were back to the 3 Counties for Mid Western Gundog where Ari won the Post Graduate class.

With March comes around the annual trip to Crufts and Ari was entered in the Open Dog class. He was shown this year by Sharne Kellenberg of Skyesong Tollers who was visiting from Australia. Ari and Sharne bonded well and did extremely well winning his class and then the Dog Challenge and then beating his sister for Best of Breed under Breed Specialist judge, Michaela Edridge. Well done to Madjik and also to Mum, Gypsy, and Dad, Arni for winning their respective Veteran classes. More congratulations are due to sister Ellie for RBB and then Glen, Tomi & Rupert for their placings plus not forgetting Mabel and Pan on their Reserve Best Dog placing.

Ari's next outing was down at Kempton Park Racecourse for Windsor Gundog's April show, Ray McDonald (Roanjora) was the judge and he awarded Ari 1st in Open and Best of Breed, big brother's Stig and Rupert were 2nd and 3rd behind him with Stig taking RBOB. Ari was shortlisted in the group under judge Fiona Thurm (Beldonburn/Bryburn).

Then we headed west for Leominster Canine Society, it was the first time we had been to this show and it was a lovely venue so I think we will be going back. Ari won the Open class, Best of Breed and then was awarded Gundog Group 4 all under Judge Carole Coode - an excellent day as brother Rupert was RBOB.

Our next Championship outing was up the M6 to Staffordshire Count Showground for the 2nd time this year - this time for Birmingham National. Our Judge was Margaret Holmes and the results were almost a repeat of Crufts with Ari winning the Open Dog class and then being awarded Best of Breed with sisters Madjik and Ellie heading up the Bitch honours. The big difference was that I got to handle him myself this time (although Sharne did offer if I paid her air-fare - hmm?) and the Reserve Best Dog slot was taken by Ellie's son, Woody - well done!. NSDTRs were judged 3rd in our ring so it was a sprint to make the Gundog Group but it was worth it as Ari was shortlisted in the Group by Ferelith Somerfield. This was his first Championship show shortlist and I am obviously VERY proud of him. I also need to say a big thank you to Margaret, Carol and Ailsa for looking after Rupert and all my stuff so I could get to the Group on time.

Just over a week later we were at the Sports Connexion in Coventry for the first time this year - the occasion was Redditch & District Canine Society's Open Show. Ari was in the Any Variety Not Separately Classified Gundog Open class and he didn't have much competition as not only was he the only dog present in Open but also there were no Yearling entries - luckily the Judge (David Hutchinson) decided he was of sufficient quality to award him BAVNSC and then went onto to award him Gundog Group 2. I was thrilled - the group judging was outside and it started to rain but Ari wasn't bothered and still showed his little socks off. I am so proud of him.

At the end of May we braved the Irish Sea and went to Dublin for the European Winners Show. Ari was graded Excellent and placed 2nd in Open Dog. Congratulations to "Uncle" Narod Aroona who not only took BOB but also went Group 4! and to brother Stig who was also graded Excellent.

At the end of June we headed up the M6 to Blackpool. Ari was placed third in Open Dog and then in the Rare Breed classes he won Open Dog and was awarded Reserve Best Dog.

2008 in Detail

Once again we started the year with a trip to Worcester and Malvern Canine Society's Open show where Breed Specialist Yvonne Burchell awarded Ari BOB with brother Rupert RBOB.

The first Championship show of 2008 for us was Manchester where, under Judge Frank Whyte, Ari qualified for Crufts 2009. It was his litter sister Madjik's day though as she took her first Best Bitch - congratulations!

In March another Breed Specialist was judging a local Open show, this time Sally Parr of the Kymin kennel was doing the honours and awarded Ari BOB at Coventry Gundog.

Ari's next Champhionship show was Windsor where he won the Post Graduate dog class under Carole Coode. He was also part of the winning team supporting Mum, Gypsy, in the Progeny class.

A week later we were at South Wales KA where our Judge was Jinty Gill-Davies, Ari won the Post Graduate class and went onto to take RBD behind older brother Glen. The pattern was repeated in the Bitch classes where Ellie took BB with Ari's litter sister. Madjik, RBB. Glen went onto to take BOB - another good day for the Camusmor family.

Our next shows were the Autumn Open Shows. First came Rugely where Brian Clark of the Flanova Tollers was judging. Ari won his class and then took BOB. Then it was time for our bi-annual trip to Kempton Racecourse for Windsor Gundog. Ari won his class - congratulations to big brother Stig (BOB) and litter sister Caoimhe (RBOB). We missed a couple of shows which made our next outing United Retriever where Breed Specialist Adrian Stacey was judging. He gave Ari first in the Post Graduate class. Big brother Stig was BOB and big sister Florrie was RBOB/BOS - well done!

November saw us on the long trek upto Ingliston for our final Championship show of the year - Gundog Breeds of Scotland where Jonathon Daltrey was judging Tollers. There were only 5 Tollers there (10 were entered) and they were all Camusmors. Stig took BOB, Ari RBD, Gypsy was BB and Best Veteran and Madjik was RBB, Rupert was the odd one out with no green edged card but it was a lovely day. We missed Lynne's bunch and look forward to seeing them all back out and about soon.

A week later Ari and I went to Mid Herts where Ari took BOB under Mike Blay.

2007 in detail

At Manchester, under David Hutchinson, Ari qualified for Crufts 2008 in style winning the Puppy Dog and Junior Dog classes. This gave him his 6th Best Puppy in Breed plus he was Reserve Best Dog behind his Sire, Arni, (who was celebrating his 50th BOB at Championship level) and Best Puppy. What a day! The family successes didn't end there - "Mum", Gypsy, was Reserve Best Bitch. His "big" litter siblings did well in the Rare Breeds - Glen was Best Rare Breed and Florrie was Reserve Best Bitch. Plus, Manchester saw the debut of the Camusmor team in the Breeders Stakes and we made a very credible job of it - well done to Stig, Madjik, Logan and Ari. Carol now has a nice Reserve Rosette to commemorate the occasion.

Ari bought home two cards and a rosette from his first Crufts. He also bought home a rather large Rosette and a prize from Quistel as he was Top Puppy in Breed in the Quistel and Our Dogs Rare and Imported Register Competion. He was Reserve in the Puppy Dog class, it was a family affair with 1st place going to brother Felix, 2nd place to brother Logan, 3rd to their half brother Sonny with brother Teddy taking VHC. Ari was then 2nd in the Junior class. Congratulations to Dad, Arni, on his 4th BOB at Crufts. Also to his sister, Caoimhe, who was Best Bitch and Best Puppy.

At Birmingham National Babs Harding was judging Tollers. She gave Ari 4th in the Junior Dog class. Ari was also in action later when the Camusmor team had their second go in the Breeders Stakes, this time sporting our lovely new blue polo shirts. Stig, Madjik, Logan and Ari all behaved beautifully and Michaela, Carol, Lou and I are really starting to get the hand of the synchronised movement. Carol has another lovely Reserve Rosette to add to her collection.

A week later was the long drive up to Scotland through the pouring rain for SKC. Our Judge for the day was Ray Strudwick who placed Ari first in the Junior class with sister Madjik second, then the first Camusmor litter made it a double with Rupert first in Post Graduate and Tomi second! Mum, Gypsy, took the Open class. So the Challenge was made up of Mum and her two sons - what a lovely day for Margaret and Carol. Ari took Best of Breed, his first at Championship level at just 14 months! This meant that we were in the Big Ring for the group judging. SKC have a hospitality tent with benches for all the BOB winners which was very useful to settle Ari down beforehand and then to leave our stuff on so Simon and Rupert could go and cheer us on from the sidelines. It was a lovely experience to be in the Big Ring for the first time, we weren't shotlisted but were so proud just to get there.

The weather was much nicer for Southern Counties. We were outside for the judging all sat around the ring in whatever shade we could find. The Toller Judge was Peggy Beisel-Mcilwaine from the USA. She gave Ari the win in Junior and then Rupert in Limit, leaving me with the 2 dogs - 1 handler problem again in the Challenge. I tried something different today and handed Ari over to Carol to show and handled Rupert. It was really nice to be able to see Ari move and he did behave nicely for his Breeder. Congratulations to Ari's litter sisters Caoimhe, RBB, and Madjik, RBB in Rare Breeds.

We were much closer to home for Three Counties, just down the road at Malvern. Tollers were judged by Colin Mackay and he awarded Ari 1st in the Junior Dog class, he then made it a family double awarding Rupert 1st in Post Graduate. We were back to normal for the challenge with me handling Ari and Rupert with the backup handler - thanks to Carol who did the honours again. It was another good day for Ari's litter sister Madjik who was Reserve Best Bitch - well done!

We headed up the M6 next to Blackpool and a reunion with litter brother Teddy. The Judge was Mrs F Somerfield and she placed Ari 4th in the Junior Dog class. Ari's litter brothers Logan and Teddy were 2nd and 5th in the same class. Teddy went onto to win the Post Graduate class - well done Teddy who is now qualified for Crufts 2008. Congratulations also to Logan went onto to get Reserve Best Dog in Rare Breeds.

Next we were down the other end of the country in Exeter for Paignton, where Jean Lanning was judging the breed. She placed Ari 2nd in the Junior Dog class.

Onto United Retriever in August and Ari gave me a lovely early birthday present going Best Dog and then Best of Breed under Michaela Edridge. He started out winning the Graduate class (with litter sister, Madjik, second) then was handled to Best Dog by his breeder - thanks Carol! then finally challenged his big sister Ellie for Best of Breed and won. Rupert wasn't left out as he won the Limit class with his litter sister, Tomi, second. Proud Mum, Gypsy, took Reserve Best Bitch.

September was a more relaxing month with our only outing to Richmond for Ari's final class as a Junior. I can't believe the litter has grown up so fast! Ari finished his Junior career off in style winning the Junior dog class under judge Valerie Foss.

The sun shone down on Malvern for Gundog Society of Wales in October. This was Ari's first show in Post Graduate and he won his class (which wasn't as difficult as it sounds as he was the only one in it). However, he went onto to take Reserve Best Dog following on from his Best Puppy here last year. The Judge was Chris Bexon. I also had the honour of handling his Mum Gypsy in the Open Bitch class, she came 2nd and went onto to take Reserve Best Bitch - I was as proud of her as her son! Congratulations to Raggs for BOB and Rupert's sister, Ellie, who was Best Opposite Sex.

Just over a week later it was up the M6 to Stafford for Midland Counties, this was the first time they had scheduled classes for us and our first time at the show. Our judge was Dr Ruth Barbour who awarded Ari first place in the Post Graduate Dog class. It was a good day for the family with older brother Glen Best of Breed, Dad, Arni, Reserve Best Dog, litter sister Caoimhe Best Bitch and older sister Ellie Reserve Best Bitch. Congratulations all!

Open show news

Ari started the showing year well with Best Rare Breed at Worcester and Malvern Canine Society's Open Show on the 6th Jan.

At United Retriever Club's February Open Show Ari won the Junior class and was declared Best Puppy and Reserve Best of Breed by Judge, Mike Blay. Congratulations to big brother Stig, BOB and big sister Florrie, BOS. Ari then went on to get Reserve Best Puppy in Show under Ray Strudwick (Burpham). He only has two more shows left in puppy so this was really nice.

Coventry & District Gundog Society's March Open Show was Ari's last Open show as a puppy (where did the time go!). He went out in style with Best Puppy and then 3rd Best Puppy in Show. The Breed Judge was Keith Young (Pyngold) and BIS & BPIS Judge was Slyvia Bunting (Mossdew). Ari's older siblings Glen and Stig took BOB and RBOB respectively - well done both!

On Easter Monday we were off to Nuneaton show at the Sports Connexion. Ari was 2nd in the AVNSC Gundog Graduate class.

Two days later we were off to Windsor Gundog where Ann Moss was judging Tollers. Ari won the Junior class and went on to take RBOB behind brother Stig. He also went on to get 2nd place in the Junior Stakes under John Thirwell.

May Bank Holiday weekend saw us at Worcester Countryside Park, a new venue for Mid-Western Gundog. Ari won the Junior class under Sylvia Bunting (Mossdew) and went onto to take BOB, embarassingly we had a clean sweep with Rupert taking RBOB honours. Ari went onto to be shortlisted in Best in Show under judge, Jinty Gill-Davies (Rosecourt).

The end of August and we were off to the Sports Connexion for Coventry (Foleshill) CA Open Show. There were only my two Tollers entered, which is a shame as I think it may be the first time they have scheduled us. Our Judge was Jonathon Daltrey who awarded both boys first in their class, Ari in Post Graduate and Rupert in Open. Ari was BOB with Rupert RBOB. The Group Judge was Trudy Short (Parkmist) and I was thrilled when she shortlisted Ari. I was then over the moon when she awarded him Group 4, his first adult group place - I am so proud of him! Congratulations also to Ari's Ringcraft pal, Paddy, who was Group 2.

Two days later on Bank Holiday Monday we were back to the Sports Connexion this time for Leicester City Canine Society. I last did Leicester City in 2004 when Rupert was still a puppy and he was Reserve Best AVNSC and Best AVNSC Puppy so a lucky show for us! There were no Toller classes so we were in AVNSC again. Our Judge was Ray Strudwick and he gave Ari 1st place in the Yearling class then went onto to give him Best AVNSC and then Group 3! Whatta weekend!

October was a busy month but we managed to squeeze Birmingham and District Gundog and Terrier Open Show in between Gundog Society of Wales and Midland Counties. Ari won Post Graduate and Rupert won Open then Ari went onto to take Best of Breed. Our judge today was Elaine Thomas of Claramand.

Our final show of the year was the NSDTR Club of UK's 2nd Breed Open Show. The Judge was Graham Lambert and he gave Ari second in Post Graduate Dog.

2006

Ari's First Show

At Darlington 2006 under Penny Williams, Ari qualified for Crufts 2007 in style after he won the Puppy Dog class and was declared Best Puppy in Breed. He was a little trooper and behaved impeccably in the breed judging. It was a long wait though until the Puppy Group and although he moved beautifully in the pre-judging, by the time we made it into the big ring the weekend was catching up with him. I was still very proud of him for a just six month old puppy, even more so considering that the previous day he was in the NDSTR Club Display team and did two demonstrations at the Midland Game Fair. Two of his litter brothers also qualified for Crufts at Darlington - well done to Teddy and Logan.

Championship Show news

At Belfast under Mrs E Dobson Ari took Best Puppy and went one better with a Reserve Best Dog. For Belfast there was a good entry of 8 with only one absentee. Raggs was Best of Breed, his first in the UK, Purdy took her first BOS since having puppies (Ari and Rupert's half-siblings). Ari's litter sister Caiomhe was Reserve Best Bitch on her first outing, what a way to qualify - well done everyone.

At Driffield under Valerie Foss Ari was first in the Best Puppy Dog class and went onto to take his third Best Puppy in Breed in a row. It was a family occasion with his Dad, Arni, taking Best of Breed and his Mum, Gypsy, taking Best Opposite Sex. Congratulations also to Stig and Puddle for their Reserve Best of Sexes and sister Madjik for her Crufts Qualification.

At Gundog Society of Wales under Jenny Miller, Ari was first in the Junior Dog or Bitch class giving him his fourth Best Puppy in Breed. It was another family day with the 2nd place in the Junior class going to sister Madjik and 3rd place to brother Felix (qualifying Felix for Crufts!). Best of Breed was Dad, Arni, with big brother Stig Reserve Best Dog. Older sister Ellie was Best Opposite Sex with their Mum, Gypsy Reserve Best Bitch. Ari behaved beautifully in the group and really moved out well, I was very proud of him.

At Gundog Breeds Association of Scotland Tollers were judged by Philip Green. He placed Ari first in the Special Yearling Dog or Bitch class giving him his fifth Best Puppy in Breed in a row. Dad, Arni, was BOB with big brother Stig, RBD. Best Opposite Sex was half sister, Maddy, who beat her Mum, Purdy into the Reserve slot. Big brother Stig also did very well in the Stakes classes winning the Dalsetter Designs Open Dog Stakes under Nick Waters.

That wraps up our Championship shows for 2006 leaving him with five BPIBs from 5 Ch. Shows, as he has 5 and his closest rivals have 2 each, then I think that makes him Top Toller Puppy 2006 as well - I never dreamed when I picked him up in May that he would be quite so successful. Well done Ari!

Open Show news

At Birmingham and District Gundog and Terrier Club under Jinty Gill-Davies (Rosecourt), Ari took Best Puppy and Best of Breed. He was shortlisted in Group under Sue Harris (Barleyarch) and then went Puppy Group 4. Congratulations to his Ringcraft pal "Paddy" who went BOB in Labradors.

At Mid-Western Gundog Society under Richard Morris (Lascoed) Ari took Best Puppy in Breed. He was shortlisted in Best Puppy in Show under David Shields (Wilholme).

At the NSDTR Club Open show under Jeff Luscott, Ari won the Puppy Dog class and then won the Puppy Challenge to become Best Puppy in Show.

At Coventry and District Gundog Society Open Show Tollers were judged by David Foulds. He placed Ari first in the Junior class making him Best Puppy in Breed. Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show were judged by J R Prosser who gave Ari Reserve Best Puppy in Show. Rupert went RBOB here last year so I think it is a lucky show for us! Congratulations to big brothers Stig (BOB) and Glen (RBOB and 1st in the Open Stakes).

We wrapped up the year with a jaunt to Wood Green Animal Shelter near Huntington for Luton Canine Association where Ari was Best AVNSC Gundog Puppy. A good end to the year.
